A Beauty Minute with Marina Cortbawi

We featured Marina Cortbawi and her style a few weeks back, but we wanted to also share the skincare routine of this new mom!

What is your morning beauty routine?

My routine is very simple and quick especially now that I have a newborn baby – I also like to focus on natural products as much as possible.

I start by cleansing with the Nuxe Very Rose foaming cleaner, it’s really soft and hydrating as my skin can be a bit dry. I then lather on a rich oil, and alternate between African Botanics Neroli Infused Merula Oil, Circumference Pure Balancing Oil and just a pure Organic Rosehip Oil. I then layer some hyaluronic acid that I keep in the refrigerator, it’s great for my under eye area, and at the moment I’m loving the Grown Alchemist’s Instant Smoothing Serum.

Sometimes I use an exfoliant or mask if I ever feel my skin is a bit dull and also to even out the pigmentation changes on my cheeks that happened during my pregnancy. The African Botanics Mineral Cleansing Mask cleanses and exfoliates and makes my skin at the same time, and it makes it bright and looks renewed.

My everyday makeup is usually very minimal, and some days I don’t wear any makeup at all. At most, some tinted serum and cream blush, and the best one I have found is by Rationale, an Australian brand and the #3 The Tinted Serum. It’s so luxurious and just creates such a flawless skin look that’s also very natural ‘no makeup’ look.

When I’m going out, I love using the new Westman Atelier products, they are so superior and the packaging is very luxe. I use the Westman Atelier mascara and the Lip Suede : Les Rouges. For Cheeks I use Kosas Dewy Cheek Duo, and for eyelids I love a gloss, and use the Surratt Lid Laquer in Hadaka, a really creamy neutral.

I love the Leonor Greyl products for hair, the scent reminds me of classic old school French hair salons. The Masque À L’orchidée is my favorite, and I use it as a conditioner as it’s super rich. I also swear by my colorist of 10 years – Jacob Schmidt at Serge Normant in New York. I switch between balayage for summer highlights to a more tonal dark brown.

What products do you use throughout the day and why?

I tend to only attend to my skin in the morning really, but when I’m traveling I just keep layering my oil and serum on my cheeks to keep hydrated. I also love using nipple butter on my lips ! It’s so hydrating and soft, the Earth Mama brand is so great and is so natural it’s edible.

Throughout the day I spritz my hair with the David Mallett Australian Salt Spray which gives my hair some texture and accentuates my natural waves.

What is your evening beauty routine?

I don’t really have an evening beauty routine, I try to wash my face if I’m not too tired and layer on some oil. I was told by an organic skincare specialist that it’s best to simply wash and let your skin produce it’s own oils overnight, and not to use too many products.

What is your definition of beauty?

Beauty is a reflection of health for me. I also love an unconventional face – someone unique and not classically beautiful by social standards and most importantly, completely natural. I see beauty in little lines and scars, it shows a woman’s character and there is nothing more attractive than acceptance of oneself.

When do you feel most beautiful?

When I wake up after a very good long sleep and look and feel most rested.
