If you told me yesterday that I would want to paint my eyelids tangerine, I’d laugh at you. But seeing Georgia’s bright (and oddly flattering) look has made me reconsider.

Summer provides the perfect opportunity to go light on the makeup and let your skin breathe. Any time I’ve made the mistake of wearing a full-face post-June, it slips, cakes, and acts like a magnet for the debris that sputters on me as I ride my bike around the city. Half the time, I turn up places looking like a chimney sweep. Makeup just feels too heavy and risky when the humidity is high.

But paired with dewy, sun-warmed skin, undone hair, and a fresh white t-shirt like Georgia, a block eye color appears surprisingly effortless. Curious, I asked my friend (and makeup artist) Sam Addington about how to achieve, sans disaster. Here’s the rundown:

– Use a cream color (easy to apply and easy to remove should you make a mistake.)

– Make it bold and graphic by layering the color, or a little more subtle by diffusing it. A Q Tip will aid in either of these techniques.

– Apply primer to your lids first so it lasts – and then apply the color with your finger or a flat shadow brush. For added security, lightly apply a dust powder to set.

– If you’re feeling really bold (with orange eyes, you likely should), skip mascara!

Like a neon pedicure or Hawaiian print shirt, it’s the season to embrace a sunny disposition in every form, orange eyelids included. What do ya say?
