I tried. I tried to read the newspapers. I talked to my family, I talk to my friends. Many of them lost loved ones in the massacre on Friday. I was speechless. I tried to read the papers again. I tried to keep smiling. I went for a long walk through the streets of New York to try to absorb all the emotion that was getting caught in my throat. I tried to give myself the weekend to write something that would express how deeply touched I am, how deeply touched we all are.
I tried to write and talk about the France where I was born, as a daughter of immigrants of different religions, but raised in “laïcité” (the respect of people’s beliefs, secularity). About the France I love. About the culture being assassinated. About life, that was ended on Friday.
I tried, but I can’t.
Today, I have no words to express what I’m feeling.
We are going to continue with the blog as usual, because it’s the only thing we can do and we can’t let ourselves succumb to this.
But today, more than ever, I wanted to send you a message of love, of kindness, of brotherhood and peace. In my name, and on behalf of my team, I want to send you light and warmth, because we will never be able to make sense of the horror.
Let’s keep moving forward.
