I have two massive crushes on Magogodi oaMphela Makhene (pictured above) and Cleyvis Natera (pictured below). From reading their writing alone, one would develop a crush, but having met both of them in person and seen the joy they bring to everything they do, well that just puts it over the edge.
Michelle cracks us up. Every time we watch her stand up comedy, see her in a movie or on TV, or just talk to her, we have tears of laughter. But she’s not only blessed with the gift of funny, she also knows how to tell it like it is. Her comedy around marriage and dating is both honest and hysterical—and she’s not afraid to tackle the complicated stuff, like fertility challenges and motherhood. She has a book coming out in December we can’t wait to read, but in the meantime we wanted to get her best summer finds.

At Home, Off Duty
Recently, during yet another quarantine-induced cleaning frenzy, I stumbled upon the magazine archives I kept as teen.
Back in the early 2000s, I was a magazine junkie. I would buy as many as I could, and then I would really savor them, I’d flag the pages I loved, or I’d turn them into collages. On occasion, I even took notes. (I am Virgo and, yes, a huge nerd).
Looking back through those images, one thing I noticed is that I almost never saved the high-glamour, big-budget editorials (and there were many in those days). Anything over-the-top, overly-done, or inaccessible just didn’t appeal to me.
