Two Hands’ Acai Bowl

One of my favorite places for breakfast is Two Hands, a really cute cafe that’s pretty close to the studio – and also has lifesaving coffee! Like Navy, they serve a really delicious avocado toast – but it’s their acai bowl that I love the most.

Acai bowls seem to be trending now in New York (who knew that food could trend?), but it’s because their main ingredient is the acai berry – a powerful antioxidant and “superfood” from Brazil. But, the best thing is how good it tastes – the base is a smoothie consistency of blended frozen fruit, and tastes almost like ice cream. Then the toppings add this incredible texture, and it looks so pretty I feel as though I’m almost eating art.

It’s like eating dessert for breakfast, only it’s really really good for you…

When I asked Giles and Henry, the owners, how it was made, I found out it’s actually a really simple and quick recipe – and I had to share!

 

Acai Smoothie Mix
1 frozen banana (chopped into inch-long pieces)
1 large handful of frozen blueberries
6 oz of almond milk
1 tbs Acai powder
1 tsp of Cacao powder

Toppings
Granola
Desiccated Coconut
Chia Seeds
Hemp Seeds
Cacao Nibs
Handful of fresh Blueberries and Raspberries

Start by adding the frozen blueberries, acai powder, cacao powder and almond milk into a blender and blend until smooth.

Add one banana piece at a time and use your blender tamper/stick to force the mixture around the blender as it thickens. After all bananas are blended it should be smooth but with a thick consistency.

Remove mix from blender into bowl, sprinkle desired toppings (the ones listed above, as all great superfoods with amazing health benefits).
