Since we’re all walking around with our eyes glued to our screens, having a watch is kind of becoming redundant.
Even I, who can’t stand being late and always used to have a watch at my wrist (always the same watch, actually), realized that, these past years, my arm has become lighter. No more watch. In my jewelry box, needles stopped, sad.
Sad because I’ve always found watches to be beautiful and poetic. Carrying with you the idea of time flying, the needles that turn, the beat when you take it close to your ears, like a heartbeat. I actually think I love watches so much that I was never able to choose my favorite. Oh, and the watches I love are always crazy expensive.
That’s why I’m happy to see things are changing — new brands are offering some cool, affordable watches, making them objects you can wear as accessories without thinking of breaking your 401k. I’ve seen them come back on wrists of my friends, I’ve seen them on Pinterest, and guess what came out of the jewelry box the other day? My old Rolex, yes.
Funny to see that this is all happening at the same moment as Apple is about to release their watch. I tried it on the other day, and it’s as fantastic as it’s scary (slave bracelet, anyone?) but you bet we’ll talk more about it soon.
Do you wear a watch? Or do you have a hard time finding it useful today?
