I know, I know, I know, I know. We’re so blasé. We’ve seen a million of these high street / designer in vogue shows. We. Don’t. Care.
But while I was sitting at the launch show last night with a delicious but unidentified alcoholic beverage in hand (not knowing what I was drinking never stopped me from drinking, haha), sitting a few feet away from Kylie Jenner (which I think is a nod from the fashion industry telling me I’ve succeeded in life) I thought to myself: wait, but seriously, why are we so blasé?
10 years after the first Karl Lagerfeld collection for H&M, few things are cooler than these collaborations that give pretty much everyone access to clothing by creators we love. I bought everything from the Isabel Marant collection, for example, and I still wear tons of pieces from it, which have turned out to be of excellent quality. I didn’t love Margiela as much, but I recognize there were some splendid pieces in the collection, and let me tell you, I’ll definitely be getting some of the Balmain pieces.
Yeah, I would have liked to do some shopping right after the show (and after the Backstreet Boys concert, a 90s trend I apparently missed entirely, probably because I’m not American and at the time, my only source of musical inspiration was the speaker I was dancing next to at a rave) but I didn’t.
I’m a much too respectable woman to let myself jump into that brawl (unless it’s to get an unidentified alcoholic beverage for myself and my friends)(in that case, nothing can stop me, not even a bar, not even Kylie Jenner’s bodyguard) but also because, thanks to the newly blasé fashion crowds, it is now possible for the typical customer to go into an H&M a few days after the launch and find the entire collection there. That’s what happened to me for the Marant collection, and it was lovely — I even did like I do at the bar — I bought things for my friends!
So here are a few of my favorite pieces, just for you. A lot of them were in the men’s collection, of course, you know me, and a lot of these pieces would be way better with a pair of simple sneakers, in my opinion, to tone down the sexual temperature a few degrees. But other than that, honestly, bravo Olivier!
In order of preference, the pieces I want to buy are:
1/ This coat, RIGHT AWAY! It’s sublime, the quality is amazing, the cut is perfect, and that collar, aaahhh that collar. I’ll take it.
2/ These green pants. I know, you can’t see them very well, but they’re part stretch pants, part suede, and super beautiful.
3/ I love this yellow blouse. The color and cut are sublime.
4/ Ok, ok, not all at once, but if you take the pieces separately, those reds are pretty gorgeous, right? That jacket? Yes!
5/ I’ll have to try it on, but you know how much I love a good jumpsuit.
