Carolina Spencer and Matagalán

I found myself, time and time again, scrolling past these eye-catching floral designs on Instagram the past month. Totally obsessed I set out to find their curator! Carolina Spencer is the Chilean born, Barcelona based floral designer behind Matagalán.

You can peruse her floral arrangements for inspiration on her Instagram, or if you’ve traveled to Barcelona lately and stayed at Casa Bonay and visited Satan’s Coffee you might have peeped her floral arrangements there!

Spencer has been doing floral designs for four years and launched her online ceramic shop just before the end of last year. Her colorful arrays are inspired by Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging, and her current scenery of Barcelona. After designing her uniquely shaped vases she sends her sketches to a ceramist in the nearby Cataluña countryside to be made.

If you love Spencer’s designs as much as I do, find some related work at @freakebana, also known as “the turnt cousin of ikebana” according to Stella Bugbee.
