Instagram Blackhole

Instagram Blackhole

You’ve probably fallen into one.

We’re on our team retreat right now (and yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds) and, the other night, we fell down a really really deep one. Us being Brie, Elle and I, and an Instagram black hole being when you start digging 72 weeks into someone’s Instagram feed, and then you jump to a random account and then another…

30 minutes later, we were mesmerized by how much Kylie Jenner has grown up in the past year, and we had confirmation that Taylor Swift was definitely dating Calvin Harris and she likes to grill (he posted a photo of her grilling, so yeah)…

Do you ever find yourself falling down an Instagram blackhole like that, and you have no idea why you’re doing it but you can’t stop scrolling?

  • Instagram blackhole, I like the way you call it. So funny. I fell into Kylie Jenner too the other day. I felt like a creep, but was not able to stop. SO FASCINATING.

  • Only when I’m looking @studiodore. :-)

  • Yessss! Back story: ever since Elin Kling closed down her blog, I have felt a void in my blog life! Lo and behold, I am browsing instagram today, and come across Pernille Teisbaek’s insta. There I am just scrolling, scrolling, checking waaay back, and oh she has a blog, and ohh she had bangs last year, mhm… And voila, insta-blackhole!

  • Euuuh…. Ca m’arrive presque tous les jours ! Mais ouais, comment perdre 30 min pour rien… Mais c’est tellement bon ! ahah

I end up there every night before I go to sleep.. and then I won’t sleep until I scrolled down like 5.000 times … It’s such a waste of time, but I can’t stop it… even if I am super super tired and swear to go to bed early tonight… can’t stop it.

  • This TOTALLY happened to me during the whole summer.
    I know. Pathetic.
But I had a great excuse, first in July I had to spent more time on Instagram for work (getting inspired, do some watch bla bla bla) and in August, I spent 3 weeks in Bali where, well, after the first week excitement, you gotta do what you gotta do, aka, trying not to get crazy with all the calm/nature/kind people/zen around…
And there they were, my daily Instagram blackholes (love that term!): scrolling and scrolling, with most of the times trying your best not to like that 85 weeks old photo (you don’t want to scare people right?) or ending on the feed of the cousin of your boyfriend’s ex and ruining your mood for the 2 next hours…
Argh… Instagram blackholes!!! Looking forward to see that I’m not alone in my neuroses ;)

  • Ce qui doit être drôle et effrayant à la fois, c’est que vous-mêmes êtes parfois la cible d’un de nos trous noirs instagrammesques ! :-)

  • I do this so much. I don’t even know how I find random people that have really pretty instagrams and then I’m looking at their first picture ever and like totally ashamed at myself for wasting x amount of time! It’s just so easy to keep scrolling.

  • I sometimes do, but I enjoy accounts of ordinary, talented people posting beautiful photographs on various subjects. I can quite honestly say that I have never checked out a celeb instagram account. I am bombarded with enough unwanted visuals of these people not to need to seek out more myself!

  • YES! Just happened to me last weekend, during an entire Hampton Jitney ride :) It’s almost therapeutic.

  • Unfortunately yeah, and it cannibalizes so much of my time.. I can do it all day long, just jumping from one account to another, liking too many pics, discovering tons of new things I “have” to buy or experience…

  • Every day, usually at night. I´m digging a cool person´s style and end up following someone she tagged and the person tagged by the third person….and so on. They should have a snigglet for this, like instawhole or something like that.

PS. the worst part is when the internet isn´t working that fast, but you keep digging, desperately tapping the refresh icon.

  • All the time!!!

  • I’m insomniac so I often fall in this “instagram blackhole” at night, when I’m too tired to read, so I check instagram and start wandering from one account to another.

  • All. The. Time.
