Living in New York has opened my eyes to just how wasteful we are as humans. Constantly on the go, New Yorkers have everything from our monthly toothpaste to our must-have-jeans delivered to our doorstep in layers of packaging. We take our coffee to-go, our breakfast to-go and eat lunch delivered to us at our desks all wrapped in plastic. Ever since I read this article, I’ve been hemming and hawing about the idea of documenting my own plastic consumption for a week for my own edification.
@packagefreeshop is the Instagram page for the Brooklyn based store, Package Free, founded by a leader in the waste free movement, Lauren Singer (who we’ve actually featured, here and here!). From laundry detergent to baby bottles and bamboo straws, Package Free sells goods to help you reduce your environmental footprint. My resolution for 2018 was to ban plastic water bottles from my life. My success rate has been 90%. Next up? Plastic straws.
@packagefreeshop is a friendly reminder in my Instagram scroll that every little bit helps.
