“Buy the best moisturizer you can afford, and worry about your other products later.”
It sounds like an old adage, but I think it was probably my mom who said it.
Bottom line: blow every last cent you have on moisturizing your skin perfectly; then unfiltered tap water, homemade face masks (read: mud), and cheap exfoliants should basically be fine on your face. Basically. Like any good daughter, I didn’t take her word for it and continued through, experimenting with any facial moisturizer that came my way.
But bad skin had me looking for solutions. I decided to elevate my moisturizer game. In Ashley Math’s Beauty Minute, she talked about the goodness of Aésop’s B Triple C Facial Balancing Gel ($120 for just 2oz. Gulp.). I covet Aesop, have always loved it. I made the investment and, you know what? It was worth every damn penny. I could pretty much only wash my face in rainwater and never exfoliate because this gel, applied correctly, works wonders. I misplaced it for two days and you know what happened? Two pimples. One for each of my unfortunate, gel-free days.
Yes, okay, it was an investment, but it’s paid off. And it’s still far from the completely insane $1,000 price tag that some moisturizers have…
Have you spent a little extra on a beauty product and it was worth it? Which ones?
